Question Unanswered: Option to import data from Ms Excel into MS Access

    Hi,

I am trying to import data from MS Excel into MS Access. However, when I click on import table, I am not given the option to select a file type of ".xls" in the import dialog box.

I have come across some postings on the web where it was suggested to reinstall the entire MS Office suite. I have now done this twice and I still don't have .xls as an option.

I have registered the file Accwiz.dll in my registry.

I have ran the setup program to (supposedly!!) allow you to import more file types.

I have installed the MS Office ValuPack.

After all of the above I still don't have the .xls file type.

B.T.W. I am working with MS Access 97.

Can anyone suggest anything else that I can try???

    Thanks for your time!!

If you go to File -> Get External Data -> Import, you do not have Microsoft Excel in the Files of Type pulldown list?

There is a box below that pulldown field which on my screen says:

"Not all file types are installed by default. To add other file types, run the Setup Program, click Add/Remove, Data Access, Change Option. Additional file types are also available in the Office 97 ValuPack."

Do you have the ValuPack? I think it was in my Developer Edition Tools

    Hi jmrSudbury,

    Thank You for your reply.

I have run the setup program and I have also downloaded the Office 97 Valu Pack and installed it.

I still don't have the option to import a file type of .xls

Do you have any other ideas? - registry entry, entry in a .srg file etc...

    Thanks,
