Unanswered: Problem in Instaling ORACLE 8i (8.1.7) on Redhat Linux 9

I am installing ORACLE 8i (8.1.7) on Redhat Linux 9 But When i runs
runInstaller, at the time of Configuration Tools

    Net8 Configuration
    it stops and do nothing.
Before that i have ignored some dialog boxes.

    What will be the problem
    Can anyone solve this problem.

you can do the net8 configuration manually, by editing the following files
    $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/listener.ora , tnsnames.ora

their should be some samples files available in the samples folder and you can take them as templates/skeletons

    If Linux is like Solaris

If Linux is like Solaris, which I believe they are similar. I know the Linux kernel is different - but this is not a discussion on kernels.

So, to resolve the question. You must start runInstaller from outside the cd-rom directory. In other words, change directory(cd) to a directory that is not on cd-rom (try ORACLE_HOME). Then run the runInstall app from that location.

    Example:

    oracle> cd $ORACLE_HOME
    oracle> . /cdrom/cdrom0/runInstaller

Notice there is a space between the dot (.) and the command (/cdrom/cdrom0/runInstaller). The dot(.) is not current directory dot. The dot represents starting the application is a separate shell.\

    Good luck.
