    Unanswered: ORA-12154 problem while connecting using Forms Builder

    Hi,
    I installed Oracle 9i and Developer Forms & Reports 6i on the same
    machine.
    I keep getting this error (ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve service name)
    when I try to connect using Forms Builder.
    Im able to connect using the SQLPlus if I enter username = system, pass = manager and SID = prima.smart or just username and pass.

    My TNSNAMES.ORA file has following:
    # TNSNAMES.ORA Network Configuration File: C:\oracle\ora81\network\admin\tnsnames.ora
    # Generated by Oracle configuration tools.

    PRIMA.SMART =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = smart)(PORT = 1521))
    )
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVICE_NAME = prima.smart)
    )
    )

    INST1_HTTP =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = smart)(PORT = 1521))
    )
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = SHARED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = DBname)
    (PRESENTATION = http://admin)
    )
    )

    EXTPROC_CONNECTION_DATA =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC0))
    )
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SID = PLSExtProc)
    (PRESENTATION = RO)
    )
    )

    DBNAME =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = smart)(PORT = 1521))
    )
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVICE_NAME = DBname)
    )
    )

    Can anyone tell me how to eliminate that Error?

    hi,

    i'm a little confused, since i installed oracle 9i and developer 6i and your config file is in a directory for oracle 8i ?
    Anyway, every oracle installation in a new home has it's own tnsnames, unless u tell oracle or the computer to use an existing one. This is doen using the TNS_ADMIN variable.
    Using windows u can set it as a environment variable or go to the registry and add a key for every oracle home.
    As a test u can copy the tnsnames.ora from the ORACLE_HOME91\network\admin directory to the ORACLE_HOME6iDev\network\admin.
    Or just use the net8 config assistent packed with developer 6i.

    I hope u have the last release of dev 6i and not the newest of Oracle 9i Database, otherwise it will not work.

    Hope this helps.
