    Unanswered: value list from within same record

    Hi, any help with this would be much appreciated.
    I'm trying to make a value list dependent on a field within a record - ie the value list is different between records - there must be an obvious way, but I'm stuck at the moment.

    I have a database with a number of possible valued fields - call them: 'item1', 'item2', 'item3', which I've then concatenated into a new field - called 'listofitems' which is different between records. I can use this as a value list, but filemaker seems to amalgamate 'listofitems' from all records into one huge list, rather than separating between records. Is there a way of having different value lists between records within the same database?
    Cheers

    The only way I can think of is to create a self-relationship that only relates to the current record. Then, create a value list based on that relationship.

    Your self relationship will probably look like:
    Relationship Name: Self.SerialNumber
    Relationship Files: File.fp5 :: File.fp5
    Relationship Fields: SerialNumber :: SerialNumber

    Thanks for that, I'll get working on my relationships
