    Normalisation anyone?

Hi, fairly new to db design and have a little normalisatin query for ya...

I have 2 tables: Client and Group

A Client can be a member of one or more groups
Each group can have one or more Clients

    E.g.

    CLIENT - client_id, client_name, group_id*
    GROUP - group_id, group_name, client_id*

Extremely grateful for any help that can be offered

    Cheers!
    Dan

If I understand your question correctly you're trying to resolve a many to many relationship. You need to create a third cross reference table to resolve the relationship.

    CLIENT - client_id, client_name
    GROUP - group_id, group_name
CLIENT_GROUP_XREF - client_id, group_id (you can put another column such as an identity for a primary key column if you want)

    Cheers,

That was my original thoughts but somehow convinced myself it was more complicated than that! (keep it simple stupid< - must remember that)

    Thanks again!
