Was it ever working - can you trace it back to when it stopped i.e installing service pack?

    Unhappy

I can't: SP was from the begin installed, and I don't know wich other software I installed in this time, I guess there was nothing but I'm not sure.

    Thanks for reply, Ingrid

    hi,

if that's all there is, i can do much i suppose.
The combination of MS XP home and 8.1.7 is NOT certified.
Oracle only certifies against XP Pro, and only 9i an above is certified against XP.
So, if u find no more error text, either in the message window or in the system event log, then you're on your own, alas.

I have had many problems with XP Home, even different editions of Oracle (lite, enterprise... etc) behave differently, use XP Pro, or even better Win2K...

    hi,

at this moment win2K is the best platform for using oracle. I've heard to many problems with windows Xp, especially the home edition. Upgrading to the pro is a must, upgrading to W2K is better.
