Unanswered: Installation via AutoRun doesn't start

I have tried to install the Oracle 8i client on a Compaq Proliant ML370 and no matter how I've done it, when you double-click the setup.exe file to start the installation, nothing happens. I also have a network version of the client that I've installed from many times and it just won't run on this computer. Has anyone had anything like this happen before? I don't know how to get this installation to run. Thanks, Jeremy

    Hi,

Is it a P4 (almost certainly). In which case...

    http://www.billmagee.co.uk/oracle/p4inst/index.html

this explains the fix. Alternatively google for "Oracle P4 symcjit".

The P4 bug deals with the symcjit.dll ...

Copy the installation cd to your hard drive ...

Rename the file symcjit.dll located in

    /stage/components/oracle.swd.jre/1.1.7.30/1/datafiles/expanded/jre/win32/bin

Run the setup.exe from your hard drive and all should be well...
