Unanswered: Suggestions please for Dbase platform

I'm new to this forum, so I hope this is not out of place. I want some recommendations for a Dbase programme that I can start to build some programs with.

I have a number of databases which I currently use with Lotus Approach but some of the limitations leave me wanting to move on to something more specialised.

I don't mind climbing the learning curve but want to go in the right direction. Foxpro has been mentioned to me but I'm finding it hard to get reading material aimed at a new user.

I know this is a bit of a broad question without knowing my particular needs but data collections have always been an interest to me so any recommendations of something I can achieve good results with would be appreciated.

If it needs to be DBF compatible then your best choice is Visual FoxPro 8, IMHO. Check out http://www.hentzenwerke.com for stuff aimed at new users.
