    Unanswered: Are dumps backward compatible?

    Hi,

I'd like to know if dumps (obtained with pg_dump) from a recent database (say, 7.3) can be uploaded into a 7.0 database or if there are any incompatibilities (data types, sizes, etc.) that will prevent me from doing that.

    Thanks.
    Gabriel.

you should rather worry about the size of the dump. The best way to do pg_restore is on the server machine not on the client (using non direct tools). All of the user defined data types will be put on the server before any of tables will be created
