    Unhappy Unanswered: Access 2002 thru ADO2.5

    I have a Visual Basic program which accesses an Access2002 .mdb file thru ADO 2.5. When the file has no security, the whole thing works. When I use the Security Wizard in Access2002, it doesnt't work anymore - no access.

    The error message I get is :

    "Cannot start your application.The workgroup information file is missing or opened exclusively by another user."

    Has anyone had a similar problem ? Do you know what to do ?

    Thanx

    Are you setting all the required paremeters to connect to the secure database?

    Set the Provider, Data Source, User ID, Password and the Jet OLEDBystem Database path. The last one is the location of the secured workgroup file.

    I've seen that message a few times also.

    Hi Gregg,

    my connection string is the following :

    "Provider=Microsoft.Access.OLEDB.10.0;
    Data Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;
    Data Source=D:\DataStore\.. .mdb;
    Persist Security Info=True;
    User Id=...; Password=...; "

    Am I missing something ?

    Ummmmm... an Access database really has "no security, anyway," so it's really not worth too much to spend too much time securing one.

    "Security" is just fine for keeping one's mitts off data that isn't supposed to be changed, or for causing the system to block the inevitable "oh s**t!" but don't count on it for "securing" your valuables.

    An Access MDB's password protection can be completely stripped away in less than a minute using freeware tools.

    Sorry...

    Perhaps the System Database path(the location of the .mdw file).
