Unanswered: Report with subform is SLOW!!

I have a report, rather like an order header/order detail format, where the detail is in a subreport, and is optional (not all headers have subrecords). Running this report on a network can take 6 seconds or more to display a single selected record. Removing the subform makes the same record display in 1 second.

Any suggestions on how to fix this? The relationship between the main and subform is on a single field, indexed in both tables; the front end is an mde file, the back end an mdb. Both Access/XP running on Win/XP on fairly fast machines.

    Thanks,

    Kevin

Access MDB databases are generally slow over a network as any query has to retrieve all the data over the network onto the local machine before it is processed. A SQL Server or Oracle database processes the data on the server and only sends over the network what you require.

You could have the database run locally.
Or you could flatten the 2 tables into one big table for reporting purposes. The idea is you keep your Parent/child table, but create a new report table that is combined from the parent/child tables. This could be created once a day, week or whenever you require. You can then remove the sub form and just use one main report form. This should be quicker.
