Unhappy Unanswered: SQLXMLBulkload3 - ignores triggers?

    Hi all,

I'm trying to use the SQLXMLBulkload object in Visual Basic to insert new records received as XML files into a SQL Server database. The insertion itself works perfectly - nice and quick, too. However, it appears to be ignoring a trigger I have set on the table in question. Should I have expected that, and is there any way around it?

    Thanks in advance

The whole idea behind a bulk load operation is speed - so these operations are minimally logged and triggers are ignored. There is a hint that can be used on bulk load operations called FIRE_TRIGGERS - however, I believe this hint may not exist for SQLXMLBULKLOAD.

I just wish someone could explain to me why XML is such a big deal, esp in light of a relational database?

    I've read Hendersons Book(s)...but it's still murky...

I actually heard a MS Evangelist say in 2000 that XML would solve world hunger.

The data is self-describing and easily serializable (portable) to any other data source. MS invested quite a bit in it basing a large part of the .NET framework on XML.
