Unanswered: Can Oracle versions 8i & 9i coexist on the same system?
I have a laptop system (Intel Pentium IV @ 2 GHz, 1 GB RAM) with Windows XP Professional (fully updated) and Oracle 9i (ver.9.2). I need to have access to Oracle 8i (preferably ver.8.1.7) for some specific project. Can I install it in parallel to Oracle 9i on the same system, using - of course - a separate Oracle Home directory?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Can Oracle versions 8i & 9i coexist on the same system?
I have been running ORACLE 8i on Windows XP for quite some time now (without using compatibility mode) and I have not encountered any kind of problems (of course, this is not a production environment, so, one can't just judge effectively from this "private" experience...).
As far as OFA is concerned, I have heard of this type of architecture in Unix environments - I am not sure that it applies on Windows platforms as well.
I have no access to MetaLink at this moment, so, if it is not much trouble for you, Drew, I would like you to send them as attachments to my e-mail address ('firstname.lastname@example.org').
Anyway, I think I am going to proceed in installing Oracle 8i using a separate Oracle Home directory (e.g., 'c:\Oracle817\...'), after shutting down 9i first - I don't need them to run the two of them in parallel, anyway, and see what happens.
Thank you both guys for taking the time to help me on this.
