Unanswered: OS X postmaster handles how many databases running at same time?

    hey guys,

I'm just wondering how many databases the OS X postmaster and PostgreSQL can handle running at the same time?

I plan on having 10 different databases running under the one postmaster.

is this correct or do i need to somehow run more postmasters to handle multiple ( 10 ) databases?

    thanks.

I think that, more over the maximum number of DB a postmaster may handle, the real question is "how big and how often access are your dbs?"

The postmaster on OSX server can handle more than 10 dbs without any problems, if they are not to huge.

not sure what you mean by huge,

if say i have 5 databases running simultaneously and each database had about 100 users online at the same time with a total of about 500 users for 5 databases at the same time is this realistic or would postgresql or the computer be too slow?

assuming each client was querying some data about every 10 seconds.

is this more computer speed dependant than a limitation of postgresql?

in this case, it would effectively be more dependend of the computer speed.
The postmaster of postgresql can support without any problem the situation you describe in your second post.
