Question Unanswered: sp_spaceused returns negative 'unallocated space'

Does anyone know why the sp_spaceused stored procedure would return a negative value for the 'unallocated space' column ? I'm running MS SS Ent. Ed. ver. 8, sp3 on a large server. My database size is 12229.69 MB, unallocated space is -411.84 MB, reserved is 12915424 KB, data is 12063840, index_size is 794040 KB and unused is 57544 KB.

    Run the following:

    EXEC sp_spaceused @updateusage = 'TRUE'

You know... I've found that sp_spaceused isn't that reliable. You have to run updateusage often. Try dbcc showfilestat -- it's an undocumented feature that will tell you the db size accurately. I believe the enterprise manager uses it.
