    Unanswered: How to check sybase dataserver status from isql

    HI,
    I am using sybase on HP-UX.
    I need a procedure how to check the database staus from isql. Right now after starting database i am using sleep command.
    Some times this time is not sufficient. So is there any other procedure to check weather sybase database up or shutdown.

    If anybody has any idea, please let me know. It will be immence help for me.

    For the database status, you can check the table sysdatabases, and more especially the column status2.

    Now to check the availability of the ASE, you can only check the return code of isql (connects returns 0).

    In the errorlog,you can check for 'Recovery Complete'. If you see that entry that means your server is up.
