    Talking Unanswered: archive log files

I have about 10GB of these dating from the year 2000

let me get this straight. If I create a backup of the DB with the exp program, I can then delete all the archive log files from before that exp file?

Not exaclty. You would need to do a cold backup, copy all datafiles ( system ...). This is THE for sure way to backup everything, then delete all archive log files.

hot backup is sufficient from my understanding.

also, I suggest running a script that qill gzip/zip your archivelogs after they are created (not counting the most recent).
