    Unanswered: error installing oracle 8.1.7 on Unixware 7.1.1

    I was able to get the installer up and running, but towards the end of installation, several error messages occured and I was not able to continue:

    eg.

    error in invoking target links of makefile /oracle/precomp/lib/ins_precomp.mk

    error in invoking nnfgt.o of make file /oracle/network/lib/ins_net_client.mk

    I double-checked the kernel parameters and make sure they are correct. I am also using the original copy of the Oracle disc

    Is there any suggestions as to where to go from here?

    Thanks,

    Mark

    Hi,

    To resolve this, add a large chunk of contiguous swap space, for example atleast 500Mb. The reason for this is that a 'Typical Install' of Oracle requires approximately 200Mb of reservable swap space during installation, and creates a 250+Mb SGA which can be moved to swap space if there is insufficient real memory available.

    Hi :

    I double-check with our os admin, the current swap space is set at 512mb, so it's likely not the problem.

    i picked out the error log:

    Calling action unixActions1.7.1.8.0 make
    installMakePath = /usr/ccs/bin/make
    installMakeFileName = /oracle/install/utl/libmerge.mk
    installTarget = domerge
    installArguments = null
    undoMakeFileName = null
    undoTarget = null
    undoArguments = null
    logFile = /oracle/install/utl/libmergeServer.log

    Exception thrown from action: make
    Exception Name: MakefileException
    Exception String: Error in invoking target domerge of makefile /oracle/install/utl/libmerge.mk
    Exception Severity: 1

    it might be hopeful in finding the problem

    Thanks,

    PATH is set up as follows:

    /usr/bin:/usr/ccs/bin:/oracle/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/java/bin:.
