    Unanswered: what is the meaning of the status of -32768 and 0??

    1>sp_configure "allow updates", 1
    2>go
    1>update master..sysdatabases
    2>set status =-32768
    3>Where name='xxx' //xxx is the database name
    4>go
    1>shutdown with nowait

    (3)restart SQL Server, login with sa

    my question is :
    in "set status =-32768 and set status=0 ",what is the meaning of the -32768 and 0?????????

    Hi,

    You find the details to all codes in the sybooks, "Reference Manual", sysdatabases.

    -32768:
    Database has some portion of the log which is not on a log-only device

    0:
    I assume that this means: No option set.

    Sorry, but you're mixing status and status2

    status = 0 => no option set
    status = -32768 => restart the database skipping the recovery step
    status2 = 32768 => database does not have a dedicated log device

    Yeah thats what I was going to say... Using this status means when you restart the server Sybase does not try to recover that database. This ensures that you can access the database after the restart in order to sort out any problem with it (in your example the log has presumably filled up)....
