    Unanswered: ORA-02068: following severe error from HIERARCHY

    Hi,

    I am creating a database link in a script connecting to the "HIPRD" database, using the the following connection string:

    CREATE DATABASE LINK hierarchy
    CONNECT TO xxxxxx
    IDENTIFIED BY xxxxxx
    USING 'HIPRD';

    The script selects off the HIPRD database about twelve times. After using the link half a dozen times the link is lost and the following error thrown:

    ORA-02068: following severe error from HIERARCHY
    ORA-03114: not connected to ORACLE from mi_entities_2_1
    ORA-04052: error occurred when looking up remote object HIER.EXTERNAL_REFERENCES@HIERARCHY.WORLD
    ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1

    This error does not always occur at the same place in the script, it can occur at any point where the link is used. Sometimes the script runs through without any problems and sometimes I get the above error.

    I'm on Oracle 8.1.7 on Unix - can anyone point me in the right direction?

    Cheers.
