    Unanswered: urgent help needed

    Hello every1,
    I have been asked to create a orahot script for backup to tape... my script is done and works fine so far but i am just not sure how to add the command to put it to tape as i have never done that. This is where it is pointed right now but i need to change the BU_FILES_DIR going to tape instead.

    BU_FILES_DIR=/var/DATABASE/ORAHOT
    JOB_NAME=`basename $0`
    JOB_LOG=${BU_FILES_DIR}/${JOB_NAME}_${ORACLE_SID}.log

    if [ ! -d $BU_FILES_DIR ]; then
    process_error "$BU_FILES_DIR is invalid"
    fi

    I would really appreciate some help.
    thanks in advance.

    There are few ways to add files to tape.

    1. Find the name of the tape device from the system administrator. ( typically it is /dev/nrmt0 )

    2. Go to directory which you want to backup

    cd /my_directory

    3. Use CPIO command to backup

    find . -print | cpio -oBv > /dev/nrmt0

    4. Verify the files have been added

    mt -t /dev/nrmt0 rewind
    cpio -itBv < /dev/nrmt0h

    Alternate Method : TAR

    1. Rewind the tape

    mt -t /dev/nrmt0h rewind

    2. Use TAR COmmand

    tar cvf /dev/nrmt0h /my_dir

    3. Verify files have been added:

    tar tvf /dev/nrmt0h
