    Unanswered: orcale 8.1.7 installation on w2k professional

    Hi,

    Can anyone tell me whether i can install oracle 8.1.7 Enterprise edition on windows 2000 professional.

    yes you can, but keep in mind if you have P4 . But there is a workaround for it ...

    I have P4 i did the workaround & its working.

    I have some service tools which needs oracle database server. I have windows 2000 professional with SP2 & i want to install oracle 8.1.7 Enterprise edition.

    I am just verifying ..since my friends raised this issue

    you ca install oracle8.1.7 on w2k professionsl.
    If you have P4 processor then :-

    1. Do not run the installer from the cd.
    2. Dump the contents of the CD in a folder in yr PC.
    3. In the dump folder rename the file symcjit.dll to symcjit.dll.old
    4. run the set up .exe from the win32 folder in the dump in yr pc
