    Unanswered: Converting numeric to text

This may be something really simple but

I have a spreadsheet with a vlookup and the Lookup is a numeric value but it will not work unless the number is set to text. I have reformatted the cells to text but nothing happens until I either double click the cell or retype the number, is there an easier way to covert the numeric values to TEXT. I have 6000 lines and I don't want to double click (or add a ') to each line

I am surprised that you need to do this. However, if this is the solution, then there is a relatively easy way to do this.

There is an Excel add-in download that is well worth the money (FREE).

    http://www.asap-utilities.com/

It gives you many, many additional features. But the one you want is

Number > "Convert number to text by adding ' "

    Works like a charm.

BTW, I use ASAP everyday as an analyst. (If you need help in installing the add-in, post back.)

    Re: Converting numeric to text

I've managed to get this converted by adding a column of quotes (') and concatenating the quotes(') and the orginal number into a general cell and then use paste special to paste the value back over the orginal cell... long winded but better than double clicking a lot cells... I'll download addon anyway ans have a look .

    Thanks,

The advantage of the add-in is that you can select all the cells at one time, and have it work on all of them.

And, as I noted, it has many useful features.
