    Unanswered: ASE_DEV and java services

    If anybody has any idea how i can use a day function in sybase version 12.5 that would be great.

    I downloaded a development version of ASE 12.5 from sybase and they emailed me a development license.

    I'm trying to use a day function in a select statement(SELECT day(transaction_date) from table1) and sybase says I need java services enabled. Some of the things that I have already tried are: sp_configure "enable java",1 and restarted, then i did select license_enabled("ASE_JAVA")=0, license_enabled("ASE_DEV")=NULL, license_enabled("ASE_SERVER")=0, I checked the license file

    SERVER qqqqq ANY 29722
    VENDOR SYBASE c:\sybase\SYSAM-1_0\bin\SYBASE.exe
    USE_SERVER
    PACKAGE ASE_SECDIR SYBASE 12.5 314FA7FAA333 \
    COMPONENTS="ASE_ASM:12.0:1 ASE_LDAP:12.5:1"
    PACKAGE ASE_XMLMGMT SYBASE 12.5 D6D423DC37A2 \
    COMPONENTS="ASE_EJB:12.5:1 ASE_JAVA:12.0:1"
    PACKAGE ASE_CONTMGT SYBASE 12.5 9363D3F832CE \
    COMPONENTS=ASE_XFS:12.5:1
    PACKAGE ASE_EBIZ SYBASE 12.5 2A8842952683 COMPONENTS="ASE_EJB:12.5:1 \
    ASE_JAVA:12.0:1 ASE_ASM:12.0:1 ASE_LDAP:12.5:1 ASE_XFS:12.5:1"
    INCREMENT ASE_DEV SYBASE 12.5 PERMANENT 1 8369DF57CE9D SN=DOWNLOAD OVERDRAFT=10000 ck=0

    and the log file

    17:08:09 (lmgrd) License file(s): c:\sybase\SYSAM-1_0\licenses\license.dat
    17:08:09 (lmgrd) lmgrd tcp-port 29722
    17:08:09 (lmgrd) Starting vendor daemons ...
    17:08:09 (lmgrd) Started SYBASE (internet tcp_port 0 pid 368)
    17:08:10 (SYBASE) Server started on qqqqq for: ASE_DEV
    17:08:10 (SYBASE) UNSUPPORTED: "ASE_SERVER" (PORT_AT_HOST_PLUS ) SYSTEM@qqqqq (License server does not support this feature (-18,327))
    17:08:10 (SYBASE) UNSUPPORTED: "ASE_SERVER" (PORT_AT_HOST_PLUS ) SYSTEM@qqqqq (License server does not support this feature (-18,327))

    All the documentation I've read says that ASE_DEV supports java services.
    THANKS

    Re: ASE_DEV and java services

    1) day() is not a system function before 12.5.0.3
    2) To creae a user defined function, you has to use the Java module of ASE
    3) The java module is optionnal and requires a specific license => you need to have a Sysam key and activate it. Then the "enable Java" will run.
    4) You don't need that to obtain what you need...

    Code:
    SELECT convert(varchar(2), transaction_date, 2) from table1

    G'day,

    day() was introduced in 12.5.0.3.

    It does not need Java enabled. You have to be on at least 12.5.0.3 to use this function.

    Cheers,
