    Unanswered: Alter Tablespace Error

    Hi,
I have an oracle 8.1.7.0 database on AIX.
i had arround 1G of space (Exactly) on one of my filesystems and i created a datafile of size 1G with an ALTER TABLESPACE command.

Oracle gave error saying, not enough space, Error writing on to blocks *** .
But it created a file of 1G in OS level, but not used by Oracle.

Can some please explain this strange behaviour?????
    Thanks

it was probably trying to create the datafile and during that time someone/something used part of that space. could be alert-log, tracefile, archive-log, could have been anything.

why use 100% of the filesystem?
    why not just 90%?

    Hi Shelva,

WHat is your db block size?

For e.g, If it is 8192B then, oracle tries to get next multiple of 8192 of 1GB which is obviously more than 1GB. So It fails to allocate 1GB of size if you have exactly 1GB space on your HD.
