Post Unanswered: ASE 12.5.1 "sybase" user permissions

    From the installation guide:

The "sybase" user must have permission privileges from the top (or root) of the disk partition or operating system directory down to the specific physical device or operating system file.

My understanding is that you need to give "sybase" the same privileges as root, is this correct and how can you do this on RedHat Enterprise 3.0

    Thanks for any suggestions.

No - you need to give the "sybase" user read/write access to all the devices that it needs access to.

So if you're going to place the Sybase disk devices in /sybase/data/ then you need to:

    prompt> chown -R sybase /sybase

If you are using raw devices, then you must change the ownership of the raw devices to "sybase" as well.
