    Unanswered: dbms_metadata to ascii file

I have trying to use dbms_metata package of Oracle 9i to
pull out the schema information of our product from the DB.

I can pull out the schema information in XML and DDL. I want
to convert this to an ascii file suitable for comparison by "diff".

Has any one attempted this before? Any suggestions on how
    to go about this?

    Many thanks in advance..

    Cheers

What makes you conclude that when extracting as DDL the results are something other than an "ASCII" file?

    Sorry... I confused you..

I want to extract only some fields only from the OUTPUT file (from get_ddl or get_xml) and put it in a ascii file in a form suitable for comparison by diff.

Basically I need to parse the OUTPUT information. The XML output is too confusing for me, I am not able to understand what field represents what information. Is there any documentation for this?

    Thanks in advance
