    Unanswered: "No suitable driver" sql exceptions, why now?

    In running a program that used to work, I'm now getting this error message. The only difference is that now I am working from home via a modem, and I've always been in the office when I have run this program before. I should have access to the entire network at home, the same as I do at the office, but now my JDBC application won't run.

    I tried reconfiguring the datasource to use the Oracle ODBC driver instead of the MS ODBC driver, but I got the same result. I can log into the database using desktop SQL+, or MS-Access, but I can't run the Java program.

    FTR this is an Oracle 8i DB.

    Sounds to me like this is more of a network issue than a database issue. One thing you might want try is to change your connect string in your java program. Instead of using the DNS name for your server, put in the IP address. For Example:

    conn = DriverManager.getConnection( "jdbc:oracle:thin@", "username", "password");
    Hope this helps...
