    Unanswered: cache status is Pend/Act

    Hi,

    On my production machine:
    1> sp_poolconfig dbcc_cache
    2> go
Cache Name Status Type Config Value Run Value
    ------------------------------ --------- -------- ------------ ------------
    dbcc_cache Pend/Act Mixed 256.00 Mb 256.00 Mb
    dbcc_cache Pend/Act Mixed 256.00 Mb 0.00 Mb

    (1 row affected)
    ------------ ------------
    Total 512.00 Mb 256.00 Mb
    (return status = 0)

    On my test machine:
    1> sp_poolconfig dbcc_cache
    2> go
Cache Name Status Type Config Value Run Value
    ------------------------------ --------- -------- ------------ ------------
    dbcc_cache Active Mixed 170.00 Mb 170.00 Mb

    (1 row affected)
    ------------ ------------
    Total 170.00 Mb 170.00 Mb
    ================================================== ========================
Cache: dbcc_cache, Status: Active, Type: Mixed
Config Size: 170.00 Mb, Run Size: 170.00 Mb
Config Replacement: strict LRU, Run Replacement: strict LRU
IO Size Wash Size Config Size Run Size APF Percent
    -------- --------- ------------ ------------ -----------
    2 Kb 4096 Kb 0.00 Mb 20.00 Mb 10
    16 Kb 30720 Kb 150.00 Mb 150.00 Mb 10
    (return status = 0)

I remember that I was able to see the same in my production environment when I set that up a long time ago. What should I do to remedy the situation ? Judgeing from the time it takes to do dbcc checstorage the pool is working. I can drop the pool and recreate, but if I do just sp_helpcache on dbcc_cache, I see the same Pend/Act status. To drop the cache and recreate it requires to bounce ASE which I try to avoid.

    Help...

Since ASE 12.5.1, you can dynamically drop/create the named caches.
Before that, only buffer pools are dynamically updatable.
