    Unanswered: Dynamic Setting in DTS.

    Hello All.

One of my IT Managers from overseas has posted me a question: -

"I have set the DTS package at our partners server, this DTS will generate the text file from <Server>. What I want is the destination txt file name should be vary according to the date. I have seen one feature in SQL-Server, it says Dynamic Setting. Do you know how to use this?"

What he meant is the output text file will be named with the system date. According to him, on 1st run the file name for example is DistributorID+<date>+<time>.txt and on 2nd run, the file name is still the same even though the <system time> has been changed.

Any advise on this? Thank you.

    Best regards

Write an active script as the first step in your DTS package. Have it set a global variable to the output filename you want. Then use the Dyanmic properties task to set the output filename of the task that creates your file to that global variable.

    Hopefully that makes sense.

Thank you guys for your advise. I will ask my overseas manager to consider writing a script and refer him to the website.

    Once again. Thanks a million.

    Best regards
