Thumbs up Unanswered: Limiting number of characters in an Excel Cell

Would anyone know of a way to limit the number characters a user could input to an excel cell? There is an old mainframe at work which only supports lines entered of 48 characters or less. Things would be much simpler if those providing these lines for the mainframe were limited to 48 characters on their form they submit for mainframe entry.

Thanks in advance for any advice, and yes, we will finally be retiring the mainframe system next year.

One way to do this is Data Validation.

Go to Data > Validation. In the dialog box, in the Allow drop down list, choose, Text length, then in the additional boxes, enter the minimum (1) and maximum (48).

    Hope this helps.
