Question Unanswered: GET_FILE_NAME not working in Forms 9i

    Hi Friends,

I have used Oracle Forms 6i GET_FILE_NAME command for displaying the windows built in Open dialog for getting the file path returned. But the same command is not working in Oracle Forms 9i Developer Suite. I want to get the file path of the photo stored in the Hard disk and store the returned path in my table.

Kindly give me the solution for the above.

    Thanks,
    Mani

Forms 6i can be client server (or web based forms).
Forms 9i is Web based only.
A browser does not know know how to access "local" files on the PC.
The short answer is, "You do NOT access local files in Forms 9i".

If it is not possible to access the local files in Forms 9i, then what can be the solution for storing the file path of the photograph in my table.

    Some solution required.

    Thanks,
    Mani

would it not be possible for you to store your files on the same box that your 9i forms server is?

It is possible for me to place the files in the Forms Server

    Hi jimmyjay / anacedent

I can scan the photo's & store it in the Oracle Forms Server. But while giving the path of the file for each photograph which are to be stored in my table is how it can be done is my question.

    Some example situation is

I need to store the employee photograph path of each employee along with his record. I need to store only the path of his photograph. I can use the corresponding command for showing the picture on the desired image item field on the front end.

Whenever the employee records are viewed, I can display the photo of that employee based on the path stored in the employee table.

Solution required for the above situation.

The other way is to store the picture inside the database itself. But, I don't want to use that option.

    Thanks,
    Mani

    Hi,
What you can do to overcome this problem is You can attach the .PLL file called WEBUTIL.PLL and you can use following the syntax to display the window using GET_FILE_NAME

The syntax is CLIENT_GET_FILE_NAME(....).Sure this will work.
    Thanks
