Red face Unanswered: installing Oracle client on linux

    Hi,

Am a newbie when it comes to doing installations / configurations on a linux box.

I need to install an oracle client on a linux box.
The thing is the Oracle Universal Installer is a UI application and the linux box on which i want to do the installation is located elsewhere. Now how do I install it remotely.

I got to know that we have to use x windows to install Oracle on linux, now can I use X windows to connect to a remote linux m/c. And if so do I need to install anything on the remote box.

    Please advise.

    thanks.

If you are new to Oracle installs I do not envy you starting out an install on Linux. Good luck!

Linux is a pesky creature and errors will abound.

If you know how to use x-term then you are fine.
If you do not know how to use xterm then I suggest finding someone you work with to help you with the basics.

At that point, ftp all the files you need over to the Linux box, unzip them, then run the installer through your xterm.

It would be impossible (for me at least) to tell you step-by-step how to do the install. Try searching for helpful links like this one:

    Thanks for your immediate response.
I am completely new to this and have never used xterm. I was trying my luck yesterday. I was able to establish sessions on a linux boxe on my local network, however the m/c on which I want to do the installation is on a different network and my m/c is behind the firewall.

Is it possible for me to start an xterm session and do the installation?

Basically need a few pointers for understanding xterm / xwindows
    server configs / client configs.

    thanks once again.
