Unanswered: Starting a Job from DTS

    Hi all,
How would I start a job from the DTS package? Also would the DTS package wait for the job to end? If not, how would I have it wait? The job I need to start is a reindex job so I don't want to start another DTS process until it is done reindexing.

    Thanks.

    why to use DTS ??

why to use DTS for such a simple task..use SQLAgent and set a job, put your reindexing code in an SP and call that SP in that job.

Well I have it in the a scheduled job already for reindexing, but I would like to execute that job at the end of the DTS. In my DTS I have alot of Inserts, Update, and Deletes. So I would like to reindex after DTS runs. Also the DTS package might run 10-15 time in a row and db becomes slow.

You can use sp_start_job within dts - but the process will not wait for final completion. You are better off segmenting your dts package into components and creating a job with multiple steps which will wait for that step to finish or integrate the reindexing in the dts package from the other job (so it is one dts package).
