    Question Unanswered: Rac

    Hi,

I'm searching a cable to connect 2 adaptec 29160 SCSI cards to one shared storrage device (SCSI HD) for a clustering testproject. Currently everything works great when the 2 nodes of the cluster are both running. When one of them is powered off, the second node hangs. The problem is that at that point one side of the SCSI cable isn't properly terminated because the automatic termination at the side of the node that was powered off isn't working anymore. Now I'm looking for a solution that terminates the SCSI cable when the one node is powered down.
At the adaptect website I saw something like clustering cables but I'm not sure that this solves my problem. Because those are expensive I must be sure that these solve my problems. Can you help me ? Which cables do I have to buy ?

    Current setup:
    ---------------

    -----------------------------------------
    | | |
adaptec 29160 64 bit pci external HD adaptec 29160 64 bit pci
    node 1 node 2

    Optimal setup:
    ---------------

    termination termination
when node 1 down when node 2 down
    ----------\-------------------\----------
    | | |
adaptec 29160 64 bit pci external HD adaptec 29160 64 bit pci
    node 1 node 2

    Kind regards

I'd say you were in totally the wrong forum here, but I don't know where you should be posting this question.

    Hi gertjacobs,

I already setup the RAC on Linux 9.0. If you have any problem you can post it over here.
I guess you You looking for the FireWire cable. Right?

No, I don't want to go for the Firewire setup.

I already have bought 2 adaptec SCSI 29160 cards and an external SCSI disk. Everything is working fine when the 2 nodes are up and running.
Troubles are starting when one node is powered off.
In that situation one part of the scsi setup isn't terminated and because off that the running node also goes down.
I have found some info about clustering cables on the website of adaptec but they are expensive. I would by them if I was sure they could help me.
So the big question is :

Will those clustering cables help me ?

    greets Gert

Does the running node shut down or only cluster manager terminated?
But I guess it shoud not be the problem with your SCSI cable.
