    Unanswered: Sending Mail

    I have never sent mail using xp_sendmail before. I am trying it and get the error message:
    Server: Msg 18035, Level 16, State 1, Line 0
    xp_sendmail: Your SQL Server Service is running under the local system account. You need to change your SQL Server Service account ro run under a domain account in order to complete this operation

    Here is my call to the procedure:

    EXECUTE master.dbo.xp_sendmail @recipients='myemail@domain.net',
    @message=My message'

    I am running Server 2000 with Windows authentication. I am logged in as administrator. What does the error mean and how can I remedy it?
    Thanks.

    You cannot use a local account since it needs access to the email server. Read the following article:

    Thanks. That answers my question, and that is what I suspected the problem to be.
