    Unanswered: import/load question

What is the easiest way to move a DB to another machine when we have the files?
We had a hardware problem on the DB server. After shut down it did not start. Old Files seem ok.

We installed Oracle 8.1.7 in another machine (both Windows), based on finding the files "Oracle 816 Production.rgs" and "Oracle 817 Production.rgs" in the old orainst folder. Is that enough proof of the prior installed version?

I am a newbie in Oracle but in a sort of emergency and without manuals. I have looked in google and this forum for import, load, but with no luck.

    Thanks in advance.

These two statements seem to contradict each other.
Based upon what evidence do you reach the conclusion
    "Old Files seem ok"?
If "After shut down it did not start", something is definitely NOT OK!
What is in the alert_SID.log file from when "it did not start"?
In theory you do NOT need IMP/EXP to move a database between systems with the same OS and hardware architecture.
Any OS utilty such as COPY will work to move the files.
Of course it helps GREATLY is you know what you are doing.
At a minimum take a BACKUP of the original system BEFORE trying anything.

The Shut Down was not the Oracle service shutdown, it was the normal Windows OS Shutdown. After that, the server does not boot due to a hardware problem of the motherboard.
But all the files in the disks are perfectly readable.

Not the same hardware architecture. Windows have been installed from scratch on new motherboard. Can I simply copy the data files? which are the files that I have to copy?

    Thanks in advance.

What your db shut down in a normal or immediate mode before this crash? If so then you have a chance.
