Question Unanswered: Manual startup of database with STARTUP

    Hi

I installed oracle 8.1.7 on win2000 server. the problem is when ever server is restarted, I need to go to command mode and give STARTUP
after connecting giving svrmgrl then connect sys as sysdba

1)I checked services in control panel and oracle related services are automatic.
2)Tried to Edit Oradim but when clicked on Oradim. its opening and immediately closing down.

whats the solution for this? How to make server start when evr system is started, Its coming in all the servers.

Can any one tel me steps to follow this problem.

    Thanks in advance
    Regards

You must start oradim from a command line prompt to prevent the immediate opening and closing of the utility.

go to START/RUN then type in cmd.
a dos command line window will appear.
start oradim by typing the name of the .exe.

    Hi
I tried to edit Oradim from command mode. Its saying I should delete the services first. Server is running and many users are connected. I can disconnect server for some time but deleting the services means..database to be re created? Please advice me how to go abt that? Any other way out?

Oradim has -edit, -new, and -delete functionality as well as -startup and -shutdown.

The command that may be of the most help here is oradim -help

make sure that you are using -edit to change a preexisting service.

If you are still unsure post your commands as you have entered them and we'll take a look at what you are trying to do and suggest the proper path.

Just by setting the service as automatic the database will not restart with the SERVER.
You have to define the variable ORACLE_SID to the proper name of your instance.

That you do it in the following way.
    1. Goto properties of MY COMPUTER - Advanced
    2. Click on Environment Variables BUTTON
and then define the oracle_sid variable there.

You can use ORADIM to start the database but you have to put this in AUTOEXEC.BAT to make sure it happens when you start the machine. Make sure the path includes the \ORANT\BIN directory already when the AUTOEXEC is running, or that it has already been set in AUTOEXEC then include the following command:
    ORADIM -start -sid <sid name>.

Re: Manual startup of database with STARTUP

Comment the following line in your sqlnet.ora
    SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NTS)
