    Unanswered: Why do the database get busy?

    Hi!

    I don't understand why when I'm develloping my database at random times I get an

    ORA-00054: resource busy and acquire with NOWAIT specified

    error and then I can't do anything with the database. I try to do ROLLBACK or COMMIT but it doesn't do anything. I have to disconnect and wait some time so I can work again. I can't see what am I doing for this to happen so many times. Any suggestion?

    Thanks for your attention!

    Other session(s) have an exclusive lock on same object/resource that you want to lock.
    Either
    1) reduce the number of users; especially to just 1 (you)
    or
    2) modify application to only lock resources for the minimum time necessary

    Yes, but I'm the only one using the database. That's why I think this is strange. Not only the resources are locked but it stays that way for some time.

    This ALWAYS indicates a different session/window;
    espeically when you neglect to issue a COMMIT
    after an INSERT, UPDATE or DELETE.

    In fact, I was inserting a lot of data without doing COMMIT at the end - probable cause for the error - but I don't make any idea where's the other session. I hope there will be no more errors like this - it's driving me crazy.

    Thanks for your answers.

    try to look at v$lock and v$locked_objects for locking information.

    Also query v$resource_limit view to check the usage of resource
    and see if you need to tune the database...
