Open client is a set of libraries/tools allowing you to connect to a specific OpenServer as a client
OpenServer is a program running as a server in a client/server architecture
ASE is a RDBMS, and a particular Openserver

Adaptive Server is Open Server RDBMS
Open Client is set of utilities like DB-Lib, CT-Lib to program using embedded C or Cobol and to communicate with ASE.
