Fine...set up a new maint plan...

Also check to see if you've any disk left..

But manually take a full dump first...

    Have you done CHECKDB lately?

Yes, we had already tried creating a new DB plan. Same results.
The disk space is good, have 32GB free. We have never run a
    CHECKDB...What does do for us...thanks

What is the recovery model for the database ? If it is simple, you will receive an error since in simple you cannot backup the transaction log.

    This what I found:
sqlmaint.exe failed. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 22029). The step failed.

Thanks...expanding to show details gave the error to research.

    I
found that since I was backing up the MASTER database, you can
not do a backup of Transcation log. Alter the DB plan to take out
Transcation log backup and have made this a seperate/indivisual job.
    All is good...
Thanks to all for your input. This was my first post to the forum. I look forward to returning...dmc

That is because the recovery model of the master database is simple. Right-click the database -> properties -> options.
