    Question Unanswered: New to sybase

    Hi,

I have installed a sybase desktop engine.
First of all i want to know what is the default userid with DBA priviliges. One like 'sa' in sql server. Because while installing sybase it didn't prompt for any user(default) creation.

All the above problems i face in creating a database using sybase central.

how to find the server name?
From booksonline i have used the statement given below:

    START ENGINE AS sample

    and it gives a message:
    Couldnot start the database engine.
    Database engine alreadyrunning.

But after excuting the above, i find a sql icon in system tray and that states that sybase engine is running.

I am using Rational and for that i am using sybase as my data store.

    Thanks in advance,
    Sekhar

    Re: New to sybase

Your server name should've been established by the install utility when you first ran it.

In any event, this can be determined by running the following...

    click start...programs...sybase...DSEDIT.

You should see a single entry called "interfaces drivers". Just select it.

A list of established server names and their defined ports will be displayed.

That'll be your server name. (And you should have only one).

The default login id is SA.

There's no password at first so don't enter anything when first signing in.

You can change the SA password later using Sybase Central.

    Cheers,

    Isaac
