    Please FOLLOW THE STEPS BELOW::

    (1) Create required directories for the STANDBY db on the same server. You can use the same ORACLE_BASE, ORACLE_HOME.

    (2) copy the primary init.ora file to STANDBY directory.

    (3) if it is WINDOWS, then create the Oracle service for STANDBY db.

    (4) update the init.ora file for STANDBY and chage the following parameters.

    DB_NAME="your primary db name"

    INSTANCE_NAME = STANDBY

    controlfiles = ("/your_databasefile_directory/standbyctl.ctl")

    LOG_ARCHIEVE_DEST_1= 'location=/standby_archive_dest_dir/'

    STANDBY_ARCHIVE_DEST="/standby_archieve_dest_dir/"

    back_groupnd_dump_dest= '/just change the directory name'

    user_dump_dir = ''/just change the directory name'

    db_file_name_convert="primary oradata dir path", "standby oradata dir path")

    log_file_name_convert = same as above (if you place your logfile with datafiles)

    LOCK_NAME_SPACE = STANDBY ( IT IS A MUST IF YOU CREATE THE STANDBY DB ON THE SAME SERVER)

    STEP B

    (1) Take a closed ( or open) back up of PRIMARY database and transfer the files to STANDBY directory.

    (2) Create the standby controlfile. (on the primary database)

    ALTER DATABASE CREATE STANDBY CONTROLFILE AS '/give standby path as specified in controlfiles parameter/standbyctl.ctl'

    (3) set the standby environment variables and conncect to idle instance.

    (4) STARTUP NOMOUNT

    (5) ALTER DATABASE MOUNT STANDBY DATABASE;

    (6) make sure it with v$datafile view.

    STAEP C

    ship archieved redo logs from primary to standby destination

    Apply archived logs as below.

    RECOVER STANDBY DATABASE;
    continue pressing ENTER till you get ERROR messages like

    ORA-00306: cannot open archieved log'/''''
    something like this.

    You can loso configure the network files to automate shipping of Archieved log files to STANDBY destination.
