    Unanswered: Peoplesoft DBA on DB2

    Hi all.

What is this term as Peoplesoft DBA. We are planning to implement peoplesoft with DB2 as back end. But whats so special about peoplesoft DBA? If backed is DB2, doesn't that mean its ultimately DB2 DBA?

Any DB2 DBAs supporting peoplesoft installations....pls clarify. Also is there any link which will define peoplesoft DBA activities for DB2 DBAs.

    Thanks ,
    j

Peoplesoft if an application that runs on top of DB2, you can manage the db within peoplesoft to a point. It usually good to have somebody familiar with the applicaiton running on top to know how changes at the database level will affect the applicaitons and vice/versa. Just like SAP runs on top of DB2, you need somebody who atleast understands the applicaitons and the needs of the applicaitons setup

Angry Re: Peoplesoft DBA on DB2

The PS code is stored in the database. When I say that I mean that when developing PS screens, functionality etc. it is all stored in the DB (thi is what a PS developer does). You cannot go update a row and think that life will be OK because it won't. All changes need to be done via the PS application by the developers. The actual data (as we know it) that is not application code can be updated if it must be to fix a mistake or something like that. These are two different jobs and if you have both I hope it's the only job you have. In that case it works well but if you support multiple DB's on many RDBMS's and now you must do SP also you are in for trouble. PS has thousands of tables, indexes etc. If you lose the database you have lost everything so make sure you have daily backups. The PS team will require many databases with names like PSDemo, PSTest. PS, PS , PS... it's normal.
