    Unanswered: connecting to both db2 v8 and db2 v7 from websphere v5

    We have the following:
    one server with db2 v8.0
one server with was5 connecting to db2 v8.0
    one server with db2 v7.3
one server with was4 connecting to db2 v7.3

The problem is we must connect was5 to both db2 servers v8.0 and v7.3.
I try to connect to db2 v7.3 using db2java.zip from v8.0 and don't work, also I create a new jdbc provider using db2java.zip from v 7.3 and same result.

    Any sugestion?

    Thank you!

    Hi,

Can you try creating 2 different jdbc providers for each of the databases and also give different db2java paths for the respecitve versions.

Please also download the WAS5 handbook from www.redbooks.ibm.com
am sure that will help immensely.

I tried this. I have two jdbc providers for each version, each package is in it's own directory.

    resolved

Instead of connecting was5 to db2 v8 and db2 v7 I make db2 v8 client to work with db2 v7 server, so connections must be made only to db2 v8.

    For this lets assume:
    - db2 v7 server (RHL 7.3):
    - ip: 192.168.1.100
    - db2 service: 50000
    - instance owner: db2instv7
    - database name: mydb
    - db2 v8 server (RHL 8.0):
    - instance owner: db2instv8

    Commands on db2 v8 server:
    su -l db2instv8
    db2 catalog tcpip node db2v7 remote 192.168.1.100 server 50000/tcp
db2 catalog db mydb as mydb at node DB2V7 authentication SERVER
    db2 terminate
    db2stop
    db2start
    su
    cd /home/db2instv7/sqllib/bnd/
db2 connect to mydb user db2instv7 using *****
    db2 bind @db2ubind.lst grant public
    db2 bind @ddcsvm.lst grant public
    db2 terminate

note: bind command raised some errors and warnings but works.

    That's all.
