    Unanswered: oracle dba

    Does anybody knows what is "downtime" related to a database?.
    Please explain in details.

    downime is the amount of time the database is unavailble to client users.

    for example:

    if you were going to perform an upgrade on the database and needed all users logged off, you would tell them that there would be a downtime of x-hours to perform the upgrade.

    Downtime does not mean that the database is down. It may mean that the database is unavailable to the clients.
