Unanswered: Updating Oracle updates DB2 at same time

    Hello all,

Somehow find myself with the task of updating a DB2 database with Data input to an Oracle database at a different location. The idea being that when the Oracle database is updated the information is passed to the DB2 as well. However some of the fields in the Oracle database are of differing types and sizes, therefore some kind of conversion is required before transfer.

Looked into using Perl DBI, SQL case statements, DB2 Information Integrator, creating CSV files and Importing them to DB2 and even looked at writing an application from scratch that does the job. So, what I need to know is am i barking up the wrong tree with the suggestions above and is there a standard way of transfering data from one DB to another converting as we go?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Oracle provide a Transparent Gateway for DB2 which may address your issue.

Check the link below for more information

The Transparent Gateway for DB2 must be installed on the MVS system (or AS/400 for the AS/400 DB2 Gateway).

Check out the System Requirements section in the above link, or the Oracle certification matrix on Metalink
