Initializing Java Virtual Machine from /tmp/OraInstall/jre/bin/jre. Please

    are you running xterm?
did you set up your oracle .profile to export your display?

When in doubt: Read the install docs.

    Re: Oracle 8i installer Ques

You have to enter in the desktop of your OS connected as root .

    after:

    1.- Open a console
2.- Change the connection to user Oracle so: sux - oracle
3.- and you will be able to run the Oracle Universal Installer

if sux is not available on your system you have to run some scripts to
    have available that utility.

    Try this:
    copy oracle cd on harddisk
    change symcjit.dll to symcjit.old
    and run the setup
    change symcjit.old back to symcjit.dll

    Re: Oracle 8i installer Ques

This procedure is a bug for installation of Oracle8i on PIV. It does not
apply for AIX based systems. AIX based systems does not work with DLL's.

    Try this:
    copy oracle cd on harddisk
    change symcjit.dll to symcjit.old
    and run the setup
    change symcjit.old back to symcjit.dll

after renaming dll and running the Setup.exe I have encountered the Java.exe error message and renaming the dll back did not fix the problem so far. Do you have any suggestions?
    thank you

p.s.: the installer worked, so the renaming dll is the way to go.

I have no clue how to deal with this problem now.
May be I need to delete some temp file, just do not know which one.
    Thank you for your help.

    Thumbs up

    Hi,

    Check the permissions on /dev/zero:
    # ls -l /dev/zero
where it should be as follows for OUI to run properly:
    crw-rw-rw- root system /dev/zero

If it is not, via the root account
    # chmod 666 /dev/zero

Login in Oracle account and invoke the runInstaller again
    SATHISH .
