    When I shutdown my computer the Oracle databse also shutdowns so each time I start my computer and want to access to my database I must log in to Oracle as SYSDBA then start it up. Sometimes I can start it but sometimes con not.
    Pls let me know the reason why my database goto shutdown automatically and the way to fix it.

    Re: Oracle database shutdown.

    What is your OS ?

    if you are using windows you can choose automatic startup for your database choosing this option at the service belonged to your instance.

    To carry out this you have to go toward here:

    SELECT START > CONTROL PANEL > ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS > SERVICES

    make right click on the service and choose automatic.

    The fact that your database startup without any problems in some occasions and not in others can be for memory issues.

    I recommend you to increase your virtual memory ( windows ) set it between 800 and 900.

    for Linux increase swap values.

    IF Windows OS
    1. Must make sure the Service is set to automatic as stated above.
    2. Ensure the registry entry for the database is set for automatic startup as well as the pfile parameter is correct.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    SOFTWARE
    ORACLE
    HOME0
    ORA_XXX_AUTOSTART = TRUE
    ORA_XXX_PFILE = ..... (Location of init file)

    Also ensure the shutdown_timeout is set to a resemable time (seconds).
    This is the amount of time to allow for the database to shutdown ...
    (30 seconds is the default ... and maynot be enough ...)
