i got schema "stability locking" problem in sqlserver 2000.
i have a application which appends dailydata table to masterdata table, while appending schema stability lock is acquried, so my application waiting a lot of time to insert daily data to master table.
ex: query in my application is ..
INSERT INTO MAINTABLE SELECT * FROM DAILYTABLE
i rebooted my server and restarted the process again, eventhough i got the same problem again and again, there is no other process accessing the same table.
Is that the only command sent?
schema locks shouldn´t be aquried when modifying data (maybe when sqlserver is compiling, not sure)..
Do you get an schema lock if you run the same sql from QA?
Are you running inside a transaction? high isolation?
Hi Try to be explicit when using INSERT and SELECT statements. I forgot why you need to do this, I think it is do with the query plans and how they are generated. The fact that you do not specify which columns may be the reason why the schema being lock.
